Redirection

The next tab is the “Redirection” tab. There are several different ways of making a redirection.

  • First you need to Enable Redirection by checking the box at the top. You can then choose from the drop down menu:
  • Redirect all requests to the page
  • Redirect from menu only
  • Include content from other page
  • Server transfer to another page (redirection is done on the server instead of the browser)

After choosing redirection type you enter the URL of the page to be redirected to and press OK. Redirection can especially be useful when a web page on a site must be deleted or permanently moved to a new location. In this case the webmaster has two options:

  • Allow all future requests for the old web page to return a 404 HTTP status indicating that the page could not be found.
  • Cause the browser or search engine crawler to request the page using a new URL. In this case a redirection would be used as explained above.
